Charles Barkley is the latest celebrity to call for the NBA to move the 2017 All-Star Game out of Charlotte, N.C.

People want the game moved because NC lawmakers recently passed an anti-LGBT bill that bars cities and counties in the state from passing their own rules to protect LGBT people from discrimination.

I think the NBA should move the All-Star Game from there next year. As a black person, I’m against any form of discrimination – against whites, Hispanics, gays, lesbians, however you want to phrase it. It’s my job, with the position of power that I’m in and being able to be on television, I’m supposed to stand up for the people who can’t stand up for themselves,” Barkley told CNN‘s Fredricka Whitfield.

On March 26, the NBA released a statement saying it was “deeply concerned that this discriminatory law runs counter to our guiding principles of equality and mutual respect and do not yet know what impact it will have on our ability to successfully host the 2017 All-Star Game in Charlotte.”

In the interview – dubbed “When Basketball Meets Politics” – the retired NBA player also spoke on his thoughts about the 2016 presidential election. He mentioned that while he normally votes Democrat, he’s currently supporting Republican John Kasich.

It’s become about rich people screwing poor people,” he said on politics in America. “Poor people in this country don’t have the same economic opportunity, they’re not in the same neighborhoods, they don’t have the same schools. So I just feel saddened because their job as politicians is to take care of the people. So I feel sadness more than anything, about how they’re dividing us up.”

When asked if he likes any of the Democratic candidates, Barkley responded he doesn’t dislike anyone, he just wants to feel inspired – similar to the way he felt about President Obama‘s campaign.
