El Chapo

El Chapo‘s bad boy behavior and quest for freedom and fame has helped him become one of the most infamous drug kingpins in pop culture today.

After escaping from prison last year and being interviewed by actor Sean Penn, the inmate is getting all the attention he desires. His story is so interesting that Jane The Virgin showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman has even thought about incorporating it into her show.

She told the Hollywood Reporter“I’m very interested in the Hollywood connection. I feel like because it just happened yesterday, I’m still processing what it is and what [it] would mean in the Jane world and what that event was, but I feel like we’re going to have some specific reaction to that, certainly. Maybe some documentary, somebody interested in the villain of it all. That’s pretty funny.”

She revealed that the show’s antagonist, Sin Rostro, was even inspired by the notorious drug king. “Before [El Chapo] escaped the second time, that was the inspiration. I had seen that article about the escape and about the tunnel system when they got him — that’s why we put the tunnels in the hotel for Sin Rostro, so he looms in our minds, certainly,” Urman divulged.
