There they were, all 11 of them, up on the stage at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California

11 are a lot, but somehow they all got to talk, but get their points across, I’m not sure about that.

As predicted, they all came ready and armed for Donald Trump.

I said in my last commentary on Tuesday that the guy carrying the ball gets hits hardest and Trump was hit hard.

Let’s start with Jeb Bush who asked Donald Trump to apologize to Bush’s Mexican American wife Columba for Trumps comments on illegal immigration.

Trump said, “If my wife were from Mexico I think I might have a soft spot for people from Mexico.”

Dana Bash- “Did Mr. Trump go too far in invoking your wife?

Bush- He did, he did. I’m sure you’re proud of your family just as I am.  “To subject my wife into the middle of a raucous political conversation was completely inappropriate, and I hope you apologize for that, Donald.”

TRUMP: “ I have to tell you, I hear your wife is a lovely woman. “ BUSH: “She’s fantastic. She’s absolutely the love of my wife and right here and why don’t you apologize to her.” TRUMP: “I won’t do that because I said nothing wrong. I do hear she’s a lovely woman.”

That wasn’t the only fight between Trump and Bush.

They went at it on Bush’s brother, Former President George W. Bush.

Bush- “Is that the judgment you bring to the table that Hillary Clinton is a great negotiator, that she can bring about a deal with Iran?

Trump- “Your bother and your brother’s administration gave us Barack Obama, because it was such a disaster, the last three months, that Abraham Lincoln couldn’t have been elected,”

That was a particularly sharp jab from Trump who was in well, form.

Not rare form, just form.

But the real question from last night is a simple one, ‘who won the debate?’

As CNBC and other news outlets reported the person who won the debate was the only person on the stage wearing a dress, Carly Fiorina.

Fiorina came loaded with ideas and solutions.

The other candidates just starred at her as she ignored them and the moderators.

She took the, ‘Look at that face” comment head on.

You know it’s interesting to me that Mr. Trump said he heard Mr. Bush very clearly in what Mr. Bush said.  I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said.

That reminded me of Reagan’s iconic comment at one of his debates where Regan said, I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent’s youth and inexperience,”

It was then I am told that Reagan’s opponents backstage knew he would win the election.

Fiorina did a good job but post-debate polling shows Donald Trump as the clear winner.
