Charlotte Symphony Orchestra Summer Pops: Celebrate America: Prelude by Chuck Johnson and the Charlyhorse Band. You’ll hear your favorite patriotic songs: “America the Beautiful,” “God Bless America,” and more. Don’t forget to stay for the fireworks finale. 7 p.m., Symphony Park at SouthPark, 4400 Sharon Rd.  Tickets.

Fifth Annual 4th of July Celebration: Starts today at 3:30 p.m. at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Festivities include live music, bar games and fireworks. US National Whitewater Center, 5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy. Details. Continues Saturday.



Plaza-Midwood Tradition: – The 15th Annual Plaza Midwood Pig Pickin’ will feature bands on three outdoor stages at The Diamond, Sherwin Williams paint store, and Snug Harbor. Various food vendors at each stage. 4-10 p.m. Full lineup.

Hickory Grove Parade. The parade winds along Harris Boulevard starting around the intersection of Hickory Grove. Ends with a block party at Hickory Grove Recreation Center, 6709 Pence Rd, with live music, games, food, and contests.
