An employee at a nearby business has informed CNN that the man who fired a weapon, injuring George Zimmerman, said the former neighborhood watchman was waving a gun during the dispute.

Employee Kenneth Cornell said the unidentified shooter informed him that he and Zimmerman have had previous three disputes.

The man shouted to Cornell: “I shot George Zimmerman, call 911. I don’t have a phone.”

Cornell said the man didn’t know whether Zimmerman was hurt. He called 911.

NewsOne has not verified Cornell’s claims.

A police spokesperson said it appeared that George Zimmerman was shot in a “road rage” incident, reports CNN. There were no fatalities in the incident, said police, and Zimmerman was able to “walk normally” into an ambulance, reported WESH.

George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watchman who was acquitted in the murder of Trayvon Martin in 2013, was injured in a shooting in Lake Mary, Florida on Monday afternoon, WESH 2 News reports.

Zimmerman suffered a minor gunshot wound, police say.

The shooting involved two men and happened on Lake Mary Boulevard, police said.

This is Zimmerman’s second time in headlines this year — in January he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend. No criminal charges were filed.

After the fatal shooting of Martin, Zimmerman had numerous run-ins with the law that included a number of traffic violations and a case of alleged assault between he and ex-wife Shelley Zimmerman.
