Menace II Society director Allen Hughes has worked with RZA on the Fox show “Gang Related,” he had a well-chronicled run-in with the late Tupac Shakur, and now he’s scheduled to team up with Snoop Dogg. Hughes—whose credits include From Hell, Dead Presidents, and American Pimp—will be working with Snoop on an upcoming family drama for HBO. Deadline broke the news Friday and reports the following:
“Written by Rodney Barnes (“The Boondocks,” “Everybody Hates Chris”) and directed by Hughes, the untitled drama is set in early 1980s Los Angeles and centers on a family whose seemingly idyllic life is turned upside down by the collision of their community and American politics.”
The drama could take autobiographical elements from Snoop’s life, as the Long Beach, California product came of age when gang banging, Hip-Hop music, and crack cocaine all exploded on the Southern California scene.
Snoop and Barnes previously worked together on “The Boondocks” when Snoop voiced the character Macktastic on a 2007 episode entitled “The Story of Thugnificent.” You can view the full story at Deadline.com.
