Brill and I

Moms, you know how we get when we hear about something that could hurt our babies! We go into protective mode. So, as you could imagine, I had a “mommy moment” this morning as I listened to the news report about the Enterovirus D68. If you’re like me, you’re wondering… “What is Enterovirus D68?” I’ve been hearing about it in the news for weeks, but it didn’t get my full attention until this morning when I heard the CDC reported that 6 kids here in NC have been stricken with this virus. Reports have shown that initially the virus starts off like the common cold, but gets worse causing respiratory problems like wheezing and difficulty breathing.

So moms and dads, pay close attention to your little ones this flu and cold season!  Don’t hesitate to take your child to the doctor if you’re not sure.  It’s better to be safe, than sorry.  Also, it might even be a good idea to get the flu shot now as well!!  I begged Lil Mama to, “PLEASE, PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS!” I don’t want any parts of that virus in my house! Especially, after hearing the reports that there is not a vaccine, nor a specific treatment! So, prevention is key in this situation. Encourage everyone in your household to:

  1. Washes their hands for at least 20 seconds with warm water.
  2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  3. Avoid kissing and sharing eating utensils with a sick person.
  4. DISINFECT DISINFECT DISINFECT!!! Disinfect surfaces, toys, and doorknobs/handles.

Be safe! Be good! And always remember to turn your negative situation into a positive one!
