Mayor Anthony Foxx was the keynote speaker at the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund luncheon today. He’s the first mayor to address an LGBT organization. During his remarks, Foxx mentioned that he’d be slighted by the NRA, which is reportedly drawing 70,000 people to Charlotte this weekend.

Foxx referenced the controversy of over mayor Pat McCrory’s refusal, a few years ago, to issue a letter of welcome to the Human Rights Campaign, which hosted its annual Carolinas dinner here.

“It’s ironic that I’m here today and I haven’t been asked by the NRA to send a letter of welcome,” said Foxx during his address to the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund luncheon.

Why do you think the NRA neglected to ask for a letter of welcome from the mayor’s office?
