clowney

Houston Texans chose Jadeveon Clowney as the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.  Clowney, a defensive end from the University of South Carolina is considered to be the most dominating defensive player to come out of college in quite some time.  An All-American both years that he played for the Gamecocks, Clowney hails from Rock Hill.

Rock Hill now carries the distinction of putting out three straight players picked in the first round in the last three years – a distinction no other city or town in America can claim in recent years.  The other two being  Cordarrelle Patterson, first round 2013,  and Stephon Gilmore, first round in 2012.

Rock Hill also boasts 11 NFL draft picks in the past 13 years that played high school ball there.  In perspective its a yield of more NFL draft picks since 2000 than the city of  Charlotte. Charlotte is roughly 10 times the size of Rock Hill.
