You have to wonder what the hell is wrong with lawmakers in Louisiana to allow such wanton abuse of their welfare program. They recently amended their welfare legislation to exclude certain items that would be laughable in other municipalities.
Why’d they add the amendment? Because a lingerie shop said that they’d accept welfare benefit cards along with most credit cards.
Even though the legislature amended the welfare statutes to prevent the purchase of unconventional items with their benefits, recipients can still use the welfare card to withdraw cash from an atm. Louisiana lawmakers hope that local merchants will report suspect behavior and prevent further abuse.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
