Neil deGrasse Tyson is the truth
[Source]
This is young Neil. That’s the coolest looking nerd you’ve ever seen, right?
Seriously though, not only is Tyson directly tied to the work of Carl Sagan who originated ‘Cosmos,’ but he has also become an international interpreter and representative for the importance of science. He’s become so popular that YouTube commenters don’t hate on him and he has over 1.7 million Twitter followers.
Try and grasp that concept for a minute.
The show debuted on multiple networks
To demonstrate Fox’s level of commitment to ‘Cosmos’ (for now) they debuted it not only on Fox, but also no ‘NatGeo’, their science and technology-based cable channel.

Seth MacFarlane doesn’t do bullsh*t
Seth MacFarlane had three successful shows on Fox before ‘Cosmos.’ Each has been on the air for multiple seasons. Seth has also made a couple of successful movies like ‘Ted’ starring Mark Wahlberg. He has credentials in providing quality entertainment. And, somehow, he figured out a way to make science entertaining. Everybody wins.
