Warner Meets Warner

Former Republican US Senator John Warner who represented Virginia is endorsing current Democrat US Senator Mark Warner, 59, for re-election. Warner, 86, tells “Politico” he’s chosen the other Warner, who is a Democrat, over the GOP candidate Ed Gillespie because he knows Mark Warner much better and because Gillespie has never served in a legislative body. John Warner held the US Senate seat for 30 years until his retirement in 2008. The Warners are not related.

Warner, a former Virginia governor, ran and lost to then incumbent Senator John Warner in a surprisely close election in 1996. John Warner also says Mark Warner is effective in standing up for Virginia’s heavy military presence.

Ed Gillespie, GOP candidate for the US Senate, chaired the Republican National Committe from 2003-2005. He served as counselor to President George W. Bush and as an advisor to Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign. Gillespie, faces another opponent Shak Hill, for the GOP Senate nomination.

The midterm congressional election day is Tuesday, November 4, 2014. All 435 House of Representative seats are up re-election and 33 of 100 Senate seats are up for re-electon.
