With temperatures expected to dip into single digits tonight and Tuesday, the Charlotte region is bracing for the cold. Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools will be opening two hours late on Tuesday. Schools throughout the western part of the state will be opening late or closed on Tuesday. Transportation trucks spread slag on the streets today to prevent them from freezing.
The Red Cross is opening a warming station uptown at 8 p.m.
