With a continued connection and high accreditation for math and science programs, the campus has undergone significant improvements in the past 20 years. This includes the dedication of several new buildings; the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Academic Center and the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, Albro Falconer Manley Science Center and the renovation of two halls, including Packard Hall, which received the Atlanta Urban Design Commission Award of Excellence in 2004.

Spelman College is the alma mater of many notable African American women: Tina McElroy Ansa, Pearl Cleage, Bernice King, Christine King Farris, LaTanya Richardson, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Shaun Robinson, Adrienne-Joi Johnson, Esther Rolle, Cassi Davis, Tanika Ray and producer/host Erica L. Taylor. The school has also had an impressive list of faculty and master classes taught by world-renowned moguls and impresarios of their respective fields.
