Deep cuts to the Food Stamp program helping to feed millions of Americans, including children, the elderly and veterans, threaten to plunge more families into proverty. By a vote of 217 to 210, Republican members of Congress narrowly passed a measure in the House that will remove three million people from the Supplmental Nutrition Assistance Program known as SNAP. House Republicans say SNAP is costing $80 billion and the country simply can’t afford a continued growth of the program. According to the Congressional Budget office, if the House version of the measure is left unchanged, the number of food stamp recipients will decline by 30 percent over the next ten years. That amounts to 14 million people who may go hungry without assistance. Critics of the measure say children will be disproportionately impacted. ‘COMMUNITY VOICES’ host, Ron Holland, delved into the issue with Conservative radio host, Henry Hollingshead. The two also debated Texas Sen.Ted Cruz’s Faux Filibuster, a possible government shutdown and continuing efforts by Tea Party members of Congress to defund the Affordable Care Act.
