The State of North Carolina has approximately 70 correctional facilities. Each facility, including the Charlotte Correctional Center, provides eductional programs and host of other services to inmates. Vocational classes, GED tests and pre-employment assistance are some of the programs that assist inmates in their tranisition back into society. Roderick “Rocky” Bailey, a District 2 candidate for City Council is a strong advocate for providing inmates and ex-offenders with the tools they’ll need to land a job and make a positive contribution to society. Taison McCollum, a certified Dog Trainer and volunteer hopes to bring the unique NEADS Prison Pup Partnership program to the State’s prison system. And, Khadija Uhud, founder of Jazzundagrounds International, is coordinating efforts to bring the NEADS Prison Pup Partnership to fruition in cities like Charlotte. ‘COMMUNITY VOICES’ host, Ron Holland talked with Mr. Bailey, Ms. Uhud and Mr. McCollum about their efforts to help inmates make a new life for themselves.
