I-77 HOT LANES (P3 Project)
• Proposal to build HOT lanes on I-77 between I-277 (Exit 11) and N.C. 150 (Exit 36) in Iredell County, approximately 25 miles.
• Existing HOV lanes from I-277 to north of I-485 (Exit 19) would be converted to HOT lanes in both directions, and extended to Catawba Avenue (Exit 28) in Cornelius;
• A second HOT lane would be built in both directions between I-277 and Catawba Avenue;
• A single HOT lane would be built in both directions between Catawba Avenue to N.C. 150 in Mooresville, crossing the Lake Norman causeway.
Latest estimate – $550 million, with $170 contribution from NCDOT.
• On May 22, the Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization (MUMPO) unanimously voted to amend its 2035 LRTP to include the HOT lanes project.
• The final RFP (request for proposals) could be released in June, with bids taken last fall, and a comprehensive agreement could be signed 6-8 weeks later.
Charlotte Gateway Station (P3 project)
• Multimodal facility will be located at Graham/Fourth/Trade Streets in Charlotte.
• Will provide access to AMTRAK, CATS system, Greyhound, Charlotte streetcar and light rail. Will also be pedestrian and cyclist friendly.
• Will be near Bank of America Stadium, three area parks, and the county’s greenway system.
• The Hines Group of Houston was selected in November to build the $100 million facility.
• Very early in development phase.
