Shree Brose, a 17 year old in Fort Worth, Texas took on ovarian cancer. No, she didn’t actually have the disease. But she did find a way to improve the effectiveness of a current drug that treats it. Originally, the cancer cells could get used to the drug and hinder its effectiveness. Shree’s research found a way to stop the cancer cells from growing resistant to the drug so that it could continue to destroy the ovarian cancer cells.
Her research won her the 2011 Google Science Fair and $50,000.
