The spring is my favorite holiday for a number of reasons. In addition to celebrating my birthday, I look forward to the changing of seasons, the emergence of flowers and soft winds serenading me on evening walks. The most rewarding part of embracing spring for me is taking a moment to intentionally cleanse my mind, body and spirit of unwanted toxins that slow me down or deter me from being my best self.

While many of us undergo an array of methods to physically detox, we don’t always consider following suit with detoxing our minds, hearts and souls. Life itself has a way of creating emotional and mental “build-up,” where antiquated thoughts, mistakes and decisions plague us in the present life experience. We struggle to forgive others, and ourselves and often point the finger at time and circumstance for what we did not receive, give or accomplish. Imagine how much more abundant our lives would be if we took some time to consider what energy, emotional clutter and mental “wardrobe” we could eliminate? Consider how much more peace and happiness would ensue if love were the lining?

Go through your life and consider holding on to things that are most essential to your spiritual, emotional and mental growth and power. As with many of our treasured tangibles, some things may be harder to let go of due to their history with us. However, holding on to them may cause more harm to your abundant life than good. When you really think about it, wouldn’t it be great to upgrade from fear to faith, knowing that whatever you release makes room for more favor?

This spring, I decided to consecrate during Lent, giving up things that I felt were non-essential to productivity and growth. The experience has been challenging, but my faith tells me that I’m coming out with greater favor, and that my spirit will rise because of the time I took to reflect on my relationship with God and the choices that are connected to it.

Look at your life’s many shelves and see what you can release in order to make room for prosperity, clarity and favor. If you’ve acquired wisdom or wealth and are courageous enough to share, then bestow favor upon someone else’s life with your life experiences and lessons. There are many youth and young adults today that need you to share it unconditionally. As you pay it forward, you can then open the windows of your heart even wider, the arms of your soul prepared to receive God’s blessings and favor, skipping along life’s way as new seasons of grace make their way to your doorstep.
