This has been a year of twists and turns in Hip-Hop. Believe it or not it’s been 365 days since we lost Heavy D. At the young age of 44, Dwight ‘Heavy D’ Arrington Myers passed away on November 8, 2011.

Described as “larger than life” not because of his size but more so because of his personality. Everyone that shared a story of Heavy D never had a bad thing to say about him. His reemergence into the culture was on the rise, Heavy D had just released his ninth album in September of 2011, titled Love Opus. Having contributed to Nas’ eventual Life Is Good release, along with a starring role in Tower Heist. Nine days prior to his death he performed at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards, his first televised performance in nearly 15 years.

Early skeptics believed his death was connected to heart disease or even pneumonia but an autopsy later showed results of pulmonary embolism as the cause of death. Doctors believed this to be brought on by an extended plane ride.
