On Wednesday, Judge Kenneth Lester ordered prosecutors involved in the George Zimmerman case to release the names of the six witnesses who spoke with the media, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Of the names released, Brandy Green, Trayvon Martin’s father’s girlfriend, was among the names. Green is a resident who lives in the gated community with Zimmerman. Mary Cutcher‘s and Selma Mora‘s names were also released. According to published reports, Cutcher and Mora are roommates who said they heard someone crying out for help and don’t believe Zimmerman reportedly used his gun in self-defense as he claims.

Cheryl Brown is another named witness, but she wasn’t present for the fatal shooting. Instead, her 13-year-old son reportedly was. The teen, who actually hasn’t been named because he is a minor, said in his account that he saw Zimmerman on the ground. The Orlando Sentinel reports:

…A 13-year-old boy who told police that moments before he heard a gunshot, he saw a man with a red jacket on the ground.

That’s important because there’s been a dispute about which person was on top during a fight that turned into a wrestling match between Zimmerman, 28, and Trayvon, an unarmed 17-year-old from Miami Gardens. Zimmerman was wearing a reddish-orange jacket. Trayvon was wearing a dark gray hoodie.

According to Criminal Attorney Eric Guster, who spoke exclusively with NewsOne about the Zimmerman case, it is not surprising that Judge Lester would release the aforementioned names, because a witness’ privacy is compromised once he or she speaks with the media:

“If a witness talks to the press, they jeopardize their ability or right to be confidential. In a case like this, the witnesses are crucial to what will eventually happen in court. I am not shocked by the judge releasing the witnesses’ names. If they wanted to be anonymous until court, they would’ve never allowed themselves to be interviewed by someone other than court officials, lawyers or investigators in this case.”

Not surprisingly, now that these witnesses have been identified, they will likely be the object of “further questioning” by almost anyone who wants details about what happened to 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on that fateful night in February.

Attorney Guster adds, “The press and the public are vicious. The country has not seen a case along racial lines like this since O.J. Simpson and Rodney King. With the Internet and the broad amount of information available online, I would expect the witnesses to be contacted and some harassed or possibly threatened by people.  With this type of tension, anything is bound to happen.”

Ever since Martin was murdered and the news went viral, this nation has been subjected to day-by-day developments in the case. Just last week, Zimmerman sat down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity in his first interview since the slaying and made a number of unsettling statements that have kept America on the edge of its seat.

Earlier, the special prosecutor on the case released a witness’ accounts, which would trigger a firestorm of controversy on its own: Witness 9 claimed that Zimmerman not only sexually molested her for at least 10 years, but that both he and his family are racists.

And that’s just in one week.

There has also been a slew of witnesses who have changed or added to their testimonies as well as botched bond hearings and dozens of “interesting” jail phone calls that involve thousands of dollars in money.

And the trial hasn’t even started yet.
