Less than 24 hours before the primary, the N.C State Bar suspended state Rep. Nick Mackey’s law license for three years. The Bar found that Mackey, a Charlotte lawyer, engaged in “acts of dishonesty” and a “pattern of misconduct.”

Mackey faces fellow Democrat Rodney Moore in tomorrow’s primary. The Bar’s decision is the latest in a string of bad press for Mackey. Ironically, Mackey has developed a reputation of withstanding bad press. For him, the adage of when one door closes another opens is his political life story.

Considering that primaries draw embarrassing low participation do you think Mackey’s latest setback will affect his bid for re-election?
