I have always loved horse. I envision myself galloping off into the sunset in a wide open field. After seeing Cavalia, I have a new appreciation for these gorgeous creatures.

If you love horses or at least admire their grace then Cavalia is a show you shouldn’t miss. It opens tonight and will be here at least through May 14. (There’s already talk of extending it another week or so.) More than three million people have seen the show which has spanned North America as well as Europe.

The show is the latest creation by Cirque du Soleil co-founder Normand Latourelle. It’s the reason you see the giant white tent near Bank of America Stadium.

Cavalia is an equestrian showcase featuring more than 60 horses, 12 breeds, in a two-hour production. Cavalia isn’t about simply watching horse gallop and jump over objects. Latourelle’s team created a mystical world in which man and horse are poetic and artistic.

Latourelle describes the show as a dream world. Along with the horses and their human partners, the show offers the signature Cirque du Soleil musical accompaniment with a live band that sometimes appears in wispy images behind sheer curtains. But it’s the horse that are the true star of the performance. They are gorgeous.

If seeing the show gives you the bug to go horseback riding head to Latta Plantation Equestrian Center.
