In the last week, we’ve heard a lot of talk about the struggles of people with addiction in the wake of singer Amy Winehouse’s death. Singer Bilal talked about the challenges entertainers face living their life in the spotlight during an interview with My92.7. He performs tonight at Tempo.

“You’re living your life in the eye of the public. This is also the thing that you do to for therapy for yourself,” Bilal said. “It’s kind of hard to get a away and recuperate sometimes. A lot of people have a hard time dealing with that.”

To be an artist there has to be some type of void inside of you that you’re filling. You do this music to fill it, he said.

“She was a tortured soul and extremely talented and a great loss,” Bilal said.

Bilal said although he liked her music, he doesn’t know it well enough to perform a tribute set when he performs tonight. Bilal performs at Tempo as part of the popular nightclub’s sixth anniversary celebration. He’s currently on a 30-city tour. Fans can expect a musical show with a wide range of music, he said.
