The Carolina Panthers welcomed their No. 1 draft pick and new quarterback during a press conference on Friday at Bank of America Stadium. Newton, who was accompanied by his father and other family members, said he would like to wear No. 2 again, but he would tackle that later. Newton was a star quarterback for Auburn last season, but NFL experts have questioned his ability to run an NFL offense. Newton hopes to silence those critics. The Carolina Panthers selected the Auburn quarterback as the number one draft pick on Thursday night. Team coach Ron Rivera gave him a jersey during Friday’s press conference. Newton was all smiles as he affably answered questions about his abilities and his meeting with team owner Jerry Richardson. Newton said Richardson asked him if he wanted to be great.
