Campus and police security are stepping up patrols at Johnson and Wales University in uptown Charlotte. Three students said they were robbed at gunpoint recently in two separate incidents near the campus in the West Trade Street corridor.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Captain Jeff Estes said police are aggressively working the case and said these crimes in this area are uncommon.

A university spokesperson said an extra security officer was added to the late evening shift and crime alert postings were posted in residence halls and campus doors.
