It’s not hard to spot a diva.  She usually styles herself after other divas who were known for classic but edgy styles (think Diahann Carroll, Lena Horne, Regina King and Kerri Washington). She values the styles of classic designers like Maggy London, Elie Tahari and Gucci, and she understands that style personal.

That’s why it wasn’t hard for us to find Okeatta Brown. A native of Columbia, SC, Brown has called Charlotte home since coming here to attend Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU).  After graduating from JCSU, she furthered her education with a MBA from Montreat College. She has served in various roles with Wachovia, a WellsFargo Company, since 1997, and is currently currently responsible for strategy development, supply chain partnering, relationship management of Minority Women Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (MWDBE) outreach and engagement.

Brown is very active in the Charlotte community.  She has served on several non-profit boards including the Urban League of Central Carolinas as Board Chair (Jan 2009-Dec 2010), Carolina Community Builders Initiative (LDI Program) Advisory Board, and Junior League of Charlotte, Diversity Council Leadership Team. In 2010, she was awarded an Urban League of Central Carolinas Young Professionals Leadership Award as well as listed in the Who’s Who in Black Charlotte and Pride Magazine’s 51 Most Powerful Women.

See what we mean … diva!

Below we speak with Diva Brown about her personal style.

1. What accessory do you have to wear every day?

Earrings! I can’t leave the house without them!

2. What’s your fashion pet peeve?

When people follow trends just because they feel it is what they are supposed to do. I love it when a person taps into their own sense of style to accomplish a look. I once noticed a gentleman wearing a tuxedo but he coupled it with Chucks to make it his own. Classic with and edge, loved that!

3. What fashion tips would you like to share with others?

Always do you.  Wear the things that enhance who you are and speak to your personality.  Be your authentic self!

4. What’s your favorite color?

Love earth tones and spring colors.

5. If you had to describe your style in terms of music, what artists, genre of music etc would you say best describes your style?

Urban Jazz.
