Terrell Boulware goes to Hickory Grove Library in East Charlotte to use the computers in his effort to find a job. Boulware has been unemployed for six months. At the library, he uses the computer to look for jobs and to send out resumes.

Unless the county’s public library system raises $2 million, Boulware will have to find another library to search for jobs. Hickory Grove is one of 12 libraries slated to close on April 3 because of a $2 million budget shortfall.

The proposed cuts have rallied the Charlotte community behind the library system. Since last week’s announcement, people have donated more than $70,000 to save the libraries. Over the weekend, elected officials, library patrons and volunteers met in several branches to discuss the proposed cuts. The library system’s board of trustees is scheduled to meet on Wednesday.
